Install Sober (Stable)

This is the local client — it guards your diffs before they ever reach the forge. Two install paths: the AUR package on Arch/CachyOS, or straight from source. Then run sober hooks install all once — preflight guards every commit, merge, and push from then on.

Guarding the forge itself (GitLab or Forgejo)? That is the Raccoon service daemon — see the Raccoon page below for what it does, then grab the CE quarterly container image (free contribution, 0 € is fine) via email link on the Enterprise page.

Arch Linux / CachyOS (AUR)

paru -S sober-bin # or: yay -S sober-bin

From source (Go 1.25+)

go install git.sovereign-society.org/Sober/sober/cmd/sober@latest

The Raccoon service daemon (forge-side)

The daemon watches your GitLab or Forgejo instance, reviews every merge/pull request with your rules and your models, and never auto-merges. It ships as the CE quarterly container image — how the Raccoon works · get the image (0 € is fine)

After install — guard every commit, merge, and push

sober hooks install all sober status --base origin/main

Preflight runs in milliseconds, works offline, and needs no model. Merge authority stays with you — Sober has no auto-merge path, by source-level guarantee.

Also available — the Sober Raccoon Daemon

The Raccoon Daemon is the forge-side surface: a systemd unit that reviews every MR and PR on your Forgejo or GitLab, stores signed evidence in a local SQLite, and posts advisory labels. It has no auto-merge path in the binary. Run it on the same machine as your forge, or anywhere that can reach the forge API.

Install the daemon — CE forge-guardian image

The daemon ships as the CE quarterly container image. Leave your email on the Enterprise page (free contribution, 0 € is fine) and we send you a single-use download link:

Before you push to a public remote, run preflight on your own diff and a review you control. Your name is on the commit — Sober makes sure your review was too.
